Econsultancy: iPad e-learning and bespoke Moodle Learning Management System

Cimex has been commissioned by leading digital marketing trainers Econsultancy to develop an interactive online version of their flagship course for iPad and PC/Mac.

Using cutting-edge HTML5 technologies to make Econsultancy.s training content available anytime, anywhere, the project also sees Cimex delivering a bespoke implementation of the Moodle Learning Management System.

The brief

Econsultancy is the pre-eminent provider of specialist digital marketing training globally. Keen to take their flagship course to a broader audience, they approached Cimex to create a mobile, interactive version that could both supplement their face-to-face offering and act as an alternative for those that could not attend training in person.

In order to deliver the best possible experience to the greatest number of clients, Econsultancy tasked Cimex with providing a solution that capitalised on the mobile learning possibilities offered by the iPad, while still making rich, App-like functionality accessible to non-tablet users on PC and Mac.

At the same time, Econsultancy needed a robust environment through which to deliver their digital courses . enabling their clients to track and plan learning, network with other professionals and receive ongoing updates and guidance from the Econsultancy team.

The solution

Cimex recognised that the digital version of the course needed to support delegates before, during and after the face-to-face course, developing greater delegate competence and confidence back in the workplace. Our understanding of how the main course and the Learning Management System could work together to support delegates every step of the way were instrumental in developing a joined-up strategy.

Using HTML 5 technologies, Cimex developed the course as a ‘web-app’ that enables a single version to be accessed via tablets like the iPad and Google Android, as well as via traditional desktop/laptop computers. High-definition green-screen video places Econsultancy.s trainers front and centre within the digital course, while a range of interactive tools, case-studies, activities and reference material unpack key learning points.

For the Learning Management System, Cimex developed a customised Moodle 2.0 installation, building on Moodle’s core range of functionality with additional tools such as competency frameworks that wsupport delegates in completing different suites of learning.

Managing Director Nick Bowyer says: ‘Learners on face-to-face training courses need post-course support when returning to the workplace. By making Econsultancy’s flagship course available in an interactive form on the iPad, delegates can continue to reinforce what they’ve learned at work, at home… and even on the morning commute. The project also highlights Cimex’s growing profile as a leading supplier of Learning Management System solutions.
